http://www.ted.com In James Howard Kunstler's view, public spaces should be inspired centers of civic life and the physical manifestation of the common good. Instead, he argues, what we have in America is a nation of places not worth caring about. Suburbia in Black & White - 01 Mar 08 - Pt. 1

A look at the lives of African Americans in US suburbs touches on social integration, economic opportunity and jazz music. This story of race and real estate chronicles the migration of Blacks from the cities to the suburbs since the Civil Rights revolution of the 1960s. The neighboring towns of East Orange - almost entirely African American - and South Orange - balanced among several ethnic groups - New Jersey, offer several interesting comparisons and contrasts, especially in today's era of the sub-prime lending crisis. The mostly African Amercian East Orange has very high rates of foreclosures, many of them the product of predatory lending practices. The well integrated South Orange remains a model of harmony among races, and greater opportunities for building wealth.

Throwback Suburbia - Circles (Directed By Anthony Gainer)

In February of 2006, Throwback Suburbia declared its state of band-hood in Portland, Oregon. Since that time, they have released two EP's and three videos, are playing to packed crowds wherever they land, and have launched a national radio campaign becoming the most played new artist on several FM stations across the country. They won the GarageBand/Budweiser "True Music" contest and distribution to thousands of Live 365 radio stations. To date, every single track they have uploaded at GarageBand has been in the top 10, four of those simultaneously. If this wasn't enough, Throwback Suburbia landed an artist endorsement with Eastwood Guitars. They have opened for national acts Veruca Salt, the Gin Blossoms, Collective Soul, Everclear and Rose Hill Drive and have established a loyal fan base in their hometown all in just 18 months. Clearly Throwback Suburbia is living its life in dog years. Drawing the attention of world-renowned producers Mark Plati and Tom Mckay of the Macchiato Kids (the Cure, David Bowie, Joy Drop) the band's four members, Mike Collins (drums), Jimi Evans (voice and guitar), Paul Bond (guitar), and Eric French (bass), had their work cut out for them with trips back and forth between Portland and New York City finalizing the details with Plati and McKay on the band's latest EP Four Play. Upon its release, both local and national magazines jumped on board boasting of the commanding performances, explosive energy and delicious melodic pop sensibilities exhibited on the record. Rock Legends Earl Slick (guitar for David Bowie), Eric Dover (Jellyfish), James Guffee (The Tories) and Greg Williams (producer - The Dandy Warhols) jumped in at Myspace giving the thumbs-up to Throwback Suburbia and Four Play, while on the home front all of the main rock stations including Portland's dearly beloved KNRK began showing their support by showering the band with airplay. Perhaps the ultimate stamp of approval for the band though, came from legendary KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, the first DJ to play The Sex Pistols, Ramones, Blondie, Cheap Trick, Coldplay, Oasis and many, many more. Bingemheimer rarely plays new music but loves Throwback Suburbia and has added them to his Sunday night show. Their tour slated for July of 2007, will take them down the west coast of the United States with club dates, interviews and record store appearances in Lake Tahoe, Chico, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles (for the International Pop Overthrow), and Las Vegas. They just completed taping for a television program out of Portland called PDXposed and have been asked to contribute a song to an upcoming Posies Tribute CD, which is being overseen by the Posies themselves. The ever-increasing fan support for Throwback Suburbia points to the powerful live performances they repeatedly demonstrate. That alone is a remarkable discovery in the modern day musical workings that have produced a surplus of unremarkable bands. Yet each time they play, Mike, Jimi, Paul, and Eric exude the blissful confidence that can only come from doing something you love exceedingly well. If you should find yourself having trouble locating a pulse in today's music, Throwback Suburbia is the proof of life in powerpop.

Jesus Of Suburbia (Ultimate Version)

alright. this is the last JOS vid im gonna do. you all will probably notice the drastic change of quality from this videos to the other ones. i was having some problems with the microphones i was using, so the sound of the other videos were shit. it took me hours to get the sound ok for this new videos, so i hope you enjoy it. if u notice i had some timing issues here and there due (i think) to this being the first (and only) take of the first song played that day. so i wasn't properly warmed up yet. i missed one crash hit at 4:30 because the crash was "drifting" away from the set. i fix it sometime later. and also, i did one more snare hit at 5:15 . shit happens.
