    I agree...kind of at least
  2. BOOTH Says: January 8th, 2009 at 05:53:32

I love the precision with which Heifetz plays. His intonation and use of dynamics are crystal clear and perfect. He is set apart from other modern virtuosoes in his compellingly reserved stage presence.

This is a prime example of why other great violinists of his era would have their mouths hang open when they heard him play live. Simply the best of his time. It does not get better than this.

i'm going have to disagree w/ the accusation of his stoicism. according to "Heifetz As I Knew Him" [can't underline title here], it said that he merely suppresses his nervousness before and during his performances especially if it's when his father [one of those parents who use children's talents for money] asks Heifetz if he's ready. it's simply impossible to actually be stoic and play with such emotion.

Yes, I was refering to Beyonce. She is the most admired musician in America according to current polls. I think she and Hahn are greatly overrated - not in the same class as Bernstein or Heifetz.

    he means Beyonce

I don't know who Boyance is but, if you are calling Hilary Hahn mediocre, you are seriously mistaken. You may not like her approach to playing violin or her tone, etc. but to say she's mediocre is ridiculous. I'm not a huge fan of the way Joshua Bell plays the violin but I recognize he is one of the greatest talents of our time.

    Absolutely Speechless!! Amazing!
  9. CONWAY Says: January 8th, 2009 at 08:34:25

Oh God...if someday I play my violin in this way...I swear I'll be the happiest girl in the world... He's amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

Americans, stop prasing mediocre talent from your country like Boyance, Hahn etc. Concentrate on the greats like Bernstein and this wonderful wonderful man called Heifetz.

I been playing violin for years, and it'll take me 20 more years with a lot of practice to even get anywhere near his level.

In response to negative comments, most elderly men just sit around and reminisce about their past. Heifetz continues to further his career. And I praise him for that. -E.Patterson, Cello
  14. George Says: January 8th, 2009 at 10:29:20

Its still wrong... the way you said it... If you can't be positive. Don't comment. everyone here Loves Heifitz.
  15. KHAN Says: January 8th, 2009 at 10:52:19

I'm not saying he's not good. I'm saying that his older stuff is better. I know he's old, and with age comes some minor loss in skill. I'm not saying I hate his playing. I in fact, think that in his prime he was better than Perlman. The only thing I don't like about him is his stoicism when he plays. I still think he's a master virtuoso.
  16. Claec Says: January 8th, 2009 at 11:15:18

Heifetz is a violin god... He is that good!
  17. Karmit Says: January 8th, 2009 at 11:38:17

Um, no he hasn't. I'd say he is a master at violin. He's very old, give him a break... everyone else is in support of him. He is amazing.
  18. CADWALLON Says: January 8th, 2009 at 12:01:16

Wow, thumbs down? If you look at his older stuff you'll see that it's waaay better.

  20. Kambria Says: January 8th, 2009 at 12:47:14

    Da!
  23. Hamal Says: January 8th, 2009 at 13:56:11

Wow, he played fast and clean. Playing fast and clean is one of the most difficult feats to accomplish to become a great musician.
  24. Darryl Says: January 8th, 2009 at 14:19:10

lol, true musicians don't need sheet music? So Mozart, Beethoven, Bach... they weren't true musicians? Should we learn everything painstakingly by ear? Is an oboist, for example, meant to learn his often clouded part from a symphony by ear? And if you mean they need it but shouldn't have it in performance, you'll notice that professional soloists never do, but accompanists may as well not risk leaving it to chance, so they sensibly use it.
