    hauntingly great

i don't think leonard cohen knows (or cares) that a show like x-factor exists, lmao

no way, jeff's version was easily better than the x factor girls, the song sounds so good sung in the style buckley does it, she sings it too upbeat, don't get me wrong she has a great voice but buckleys version is so much deeper!

lennard cohen wrote the song, words and music and the best version is bt the girl from the X factor. She as the strong voice that is required to sing this kind of song. Everyone else did ok but even Cohen said she was the best..

It was Cale who first rearranged the song, giving it it´s pastoral mood, and not Buckley. Cale recorded this on the Cohen tribute I´m Your Fan in 1991, which Buckley heard and then took this to do his version.

I agree also that Cohen is the best version, but I also like Cale, Wainwright and KD lang, but totally don't get Buckley's. I think that he rushes through to the song, does not actually pay attention to lyrics, but more to the melody, and when he yells "halleluja'. he actually scares me a little - it's quite a surprise. I think that his interpretation was more music driven rather than lyric driven and maybe that's why it appeals to younger crowd.

I add that I hold cale since I'm in love age .. the velvet ...... what is amusing, is that John Cale is really the link, since the final couplets are changed by him and with the agreement of Leonard Cohen.. I understand .. moreover, that rewriting, Cohen's request to hold?, or hold with the blessing of cohen ... if you know, thank you for you to share your knowledge ..

"Cohen's performance is the most soulfull" Seriously, you can not say that .. Jeff Buckley has completely changed the vision of the work of cohen ... it is impossible not to see .. it is tender driven, integrated and precise .. it does not mean it is better .. but miss a work interpreted, like this, is an error .. I loved to see him grow old and since I had the same age ..

the best vesion so far imho
  10. Broderick Says: January 8th, 2009 at 08:45:22

This is the best version imo
  11. Colys Says: January 8th, 2009 at 09:08:21

Aghh! No! Rufus's origionals...great. Hallelujah no. Jamie Cullum beats Rufus and Jeff Buckley beats em all.
  12. Merlin Says: January 8th, 2009 at 09:31:20

this is the best..after this dosent even count....im tired of people remaking this

It's perfectly okay to express your response to music. I feel like it isn't always the sounds or tones that are being played or sung, but the ones that you hear in your spirit. I think in that regard, this song can lift you to heavenly places where angels sing or it can make you sad. Buckley was a talented musician, and his take on this song was tender; but his music doesn't take me there. Cohen's performance is the most soulful. This is probably the best arrangement with instruments (thus far).

I love this song, but i prefer the version sung by Rufus Wainwright, but i really love the violins and cello in this one
  15. Donell Says: January 8th, 2009 at 10:40:17

I've heard many different covers of this song... in my opinion it is such a superb song that almost all the different versions are pretty good... but I prefer this one (apart from the Cohen's original). For me it comes straight from the hart, it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.
  16. LIRIENE Says: January 8th, 2009 at 11:03:16

I haven't heard this version before I must admit but it is beautiful. they are all good in different ways.
  17. Macario Says: January 8th, 2009 at 11:26:15

    great cover ;)
  18. Leonore Says: January 8th, 2009 at 11:49:14

Perhaps the violins are too much in front, otherwise brillant.
  19. BRUHIER Says: January 8th, 2009 at 12:12:13

    Leonard Cohen
  20. KWAKU Says: January 8th, 2009 at 12:35:12

Very nice, but i think - Espen Lind, Askil Holm, Alejandro Fuentes, Kurt Nilsen, their version of hallelujah is brill!!!
  21. Clyfland Says: January 8th, 2009 at 12:58:11

It's the best version of the song "Hallelujah" for me.
  22. SALWA Says: January 8th, 2009 at 13:21:10

Leonard Cohen. search for it on the small video tags on this page, or elsewhere on YouTube and you'll find the original version too. many people have sung this song, including Dylan and some others but the original belongs to Leonard Cohen, also a very very very very nice performance indeed!
  23. Gardner Says: January 8th, 2009 at 13:44:09

Es la mejor versión de las actuales aunque la original de L. Cohen es inmejorable
  24. Adrian Says: January 8th, 2009 at 14:07:08

why spend your time you want to define that a particular version is, or not better than another? it is childish, it serves no purpose, and it is against the spirit of a song like this one, for example .. in fact, it's just stupid ..
