Growing up in Grand Rapids, MI...my dad and I would spend Sunday Afternoon's at the viewing area of the Kent County International Airport watching planes and listning to Ernie Harwell. Here is a tribute to the great Ernie Harwell and Baseball...past and present. You can hear NPR's Don Gonyae's clips on Ernie as well. Hope you enjoy!

for baseball, you don't have to practise to be good at it. For soccer you need to practise every day. That's how you can tell the difference between an easy sport and a difficult sport. If you don't need to practise something, then it's easy.

    God I love baseball.

first off do not comment on a video about a sport we all love, we dont put stupid comments up on videos of rafaldinho or watever the fuck his name is doin stupid foot tricks. Try and hit a 90 mph fastball square for a line drive, try and hit a nasty bender sqaure for a liner, try and paint the corner of the plate with a slider in a 02 count. I played soccer and it is the easiest sport to dominate, if you are semi athletic your good. Baseball takes skill, brains, and heart. any deusch can kick

baseball is by far NOT the easiest game!!..wow i cant believe anyone would say that!!......its the best game out there!
  10. Leonda Says: January 8th, 2009 at 12:39:03

true, but that means the goalie, or the other team, succeeds 90% of the time. Listen man, i'm not saying baseball is the easiest or hardest sport, but even athletes in other sports have said that hitting a baseball is the hardest thing in sports to do. it is very hard to consistently hit a small ball with a small wooden bat. And on top of that, doing it under the grind of a 162 game schedule, not counting playoff games and spring training

In soccer, only 1 out of ten shots ON TARGET score so yeah... can baseball beat a 90% fail rate?
  12. Gabrio Says: January 8th, 2009 at 13:25:01

oh yeah your right, that's why the greatest players in the sport fail 70% of the time. in What other sport are you considered great when you fail more than you succede?
  13. Adali Says: January 8th, 2009 at 13:48:00

baseball is the easiest sport ever made
  14. MOIBEAL Says: January 8th, 2009 at 14:10:59

Nice job. Thanks for taking the time to put that together. A sincere effort. Seeing that grainy footage of Sparky and Gibby really got to me. A Cheers to you and Tiger Stadium.

  24. Erkerd Says: January 8th, 2009 at 18:00:49

Sorry, I meant no offense...I just assumed you were a non-Tiger fan, or somebody from elsewhere in the country who wasn't that familiar with Ernie, and that that was the voice you were talking about. The other voice belongs to Don Gonyea, who works for National Public Radio as a White House correspondent. He's from the Detroit area and a big Tiger fan.
