SL is the perfect way to communicate to those whom have difficulties with tradional school structures. A person may have difficulties of various sorts in life that vanish in a virtual space.

The full benefit of SL is what can be made their to augment teaching, those of us who have been frustrated by crowds, people, politics can find the way that helps us to learn best about the world at large. With voice and visual it gives people advantages to learning that just going to a classroom some place loses. It doesnt matter what anyone wants to teach it can be actually built in second life. What is lost is physical contact, but what is gained is a safe way to meet people not just learning

Second Life is a refuge for those of us who live with physical challenges of all sorts from those who either have to us signs to talk to those who use typed words or written to communicate. With voice now part of Second Life it opens a world of communication to all of us that have difficulties operating in a normal world but it also gives me oportunity to meet people from everywhere i might not meet otherwise.

The best way to learn is not simply by simulating a classroom, but say, you want to teach about ancient Rome or Greece, you create architecture and furniture from those eras, and even dress that way. You remember more when you combine visual, auditory AND text. Many people don't learn as well from just reading or lectures. I've attended a real campus long enough to be a Senior, and

For people who can't make it to a real campus because of: traffic, long commute, busy schedule, needing to take care of kids, or the subject of interest is not taught in nearby schools. There's a number of reasons. Also, teaching in Second Life can take on the role of a simulation.

I personally believe that second life is really bad invention that seems good. Im not saying it's not bad entirely but it will keep people stuck in their homes. Just like instant messaging. It will kill the art of conversation. It has been stabbed by instint messaging. Now, it will die!
  10. OSZKAR Says: January 8th, 2009 at 08:45:14

Can you please tell me the benifits of doing this?
  11. Jarel Says: January 8th, 2009 at 09:08:13

    what are the coordenants?
  16. Josephe Says: January 8th, 2009 at 11:03:08

The real Ohio University I attended IS in fact a great place to learn and explore the world. It is multi-dimensional, fully textured, unpredictable and REAL. Its where I unexpectedly learned about modern dance and, unrelatedly, learned how to dance on a saloon table singing "Jeramiah was a bull frog ..." and then discuss international politics with a prof in a side booth. Too cool. I'm a Bobcat made of flesh, blood and adrenelin.
  17. Rylan Says: January 8th, 2009 at 11:26:07

In the future there won't be any need for REAL social interaction, we'll all just be blobs behind our computers living a virtual life where pimply nerds act like gangsters... Well, maybe not. OSU is better than OU though. Go bucks!

Isn't it so maddening when you wake up from a flying dream? I have them too and hate it when they end :-)
  19. Winchell Says: January 8th, 2009 at 12:12:05

Universities are becoming increasingly more technological, which I think is great. By the way, this video reminds me of my recurring flying dream.

i had second life for a while, but had so much trouble getting into the campus. class of 2011 (hopefully, maybe add 3 or 4 more years to it, lol)
  21. Leonore Says: January 8th, 2009 at 12:58:03

Ohio University is the best kept secret in the country. Never have I had more fun or been to such a beautiful place and met the most amazing people. Not to mention a top notch education. Everyone who goes there should consider themselves extremely lucky and embrace every second of it. God I miss it.
  22. Ryton Says: January 8th, 2009 at 13:21:02

Very Cool! Glad to see my alma mater on the cutting edge of technology. OHIO 1804. Ohio's first and finest institution of higher education!
  23. Worrell Says: January 8th, 2009 at 13:44:01

Wow, this is so cool. HOWEVER, nothing can replace that beatiful campus and it's people. I'm a proud Bobcat and that place gave me so much more than a degree, don't screw yourself - go to school and live on main campus, you'll never regret it...best years of my life.
